Short summary
This study evaluates the ability of the GOSAT‑2 satellite to observe atmospheric methane and estimate global emissions. Using a global analysis, we show that GOSAT‑2 provides wider coverage than earlier missions and produces emission estimates consistent with independent references. The results demonstrate that satellite data offer useful information on methane sources, especially in regions with few ground measurements.
