Climate extremes threaten society and ecosystems, making impact understanding critical. Wikimpacts 1.0 provides an automated pipeline processing Wikipedia texts with underexploited information on climate impacts, yielding comprehensive socio-economic impact data for 2726 climate events from 1034–2024. It offers broader storm-related impacts and finer spatial resolution than established databases, showcasing natural language processing's potential to advance climate impact data.

Global climate change is causing some previously arid regions to become more humid. Economic downturns in these areas are leading to a decrease in water demand. These factors are further leading to a certain level of under-utilization of existing water supply projects in the area. This study finds that actively releasing ecological water increases the sustainability of these water supply projects. The cost of ecological water supply can be recovered by investment in water-related businesses.

Short summary
Floods have caused widespread societal and economic impacts in China, yet long-term and systematic records remain scarce. Using document scanning and large language models, we compiled and manually verified 1716 flood disaster records from 66 official documents covering 1994 to 2023. This open database provides a more complete picture of flood impacts in China than widely used international sources and can support research, disaster preparedness, risk reduction and insurance.
